Firearms folk had been hankering for a slim, single-stack, Tenifer-coated, easily-concealable nine since, well, late in the first Clinton administration. But Smyrna and their Teutonic overlords had other plans. In their judgement, what America really needed was a slim, single-stack, Tenifer-coated, easily-concealable. As the teaser ad claimed, the only other thing smaller than the G42 that fires every time is a freaking Zippo lighter.

Tue Feb 01, Mon Jan 31, 2: I liked it because the stock fit me, the controls were the best, and it is light and well-balanced. The comb on a bead-sighted Remington is too high for me. The comb has very little rise for less cheek slap on recoil. The recoil pad is very soft and energy absorbing. The slide release is behind the trigger guard like a Mossberg , so you can activate it with the middle finger of the trigger hand without shifting your grip on the rear stock unlike an The safety is on the front of the trigger guard the best possible place since this is the natural ready postion of the trigger finger.
The bolt has rotating locking lugs that engage the barrel extension directly, whereas most other pump shotguns lock up with the receiver or only one part of the barrel extension. It is like an AR bolt lock up on steroids. This contains the energy of the shot and allows a less-stressed lightweight aluminum alloy receiver.

By Chuck Hawks Win. Illustration courtesy of U. That was the year that their revised for cheaper manufacture line of firearms was introduced. Unfortunately, the revisions included the Model 94 lever action rifle. You have to understand that the Model 94 was an icon amongst lever action rifles and the standard of comparison at the time.
The reaction from gun writers and the shooting public to the changes was swift and terrible, and Winchester has never regained their former position of dominance. Ultimately, in , Olin Corporation struck a licensing agreement with United States Repeating Arms to manufacture Winchester firearms, which were no longer a profitable line for Olin. In a few years Olin was out of the gun business. Olin still manufactures Winchester ammunition, however. From to the Model 94 lever action rifle had been manufactured using high quality forged steel parts and stocked in genuine American black walnut.
Today, years later, it remains a popular choice for ammunition. The cartridge shoots a. Consequently, velocities are lower, but recoil is milder. Sep 09, · I went shooting yesterday and took along my Winchester Model Last night as I started to clean it I have to admit, I don’t think I know the best way to clean my gun. I inherited the gun from my Dad and do not know anyone who owns one that can show me how to cleam it.
First off is the model , this is an easy one to identify, it will have a serial number under The forearm is very slender and rises to the receiver very sharply. Now the hard part. The early Savage rifles were never given a lettered model designation, they were put into this system to try to put an understanding in what you have later on in production. They were the basic package, nothing fancy or different from normal guns of the day. The B and C, these two rifle were the same as the A only the barrel configurations were changed.
The D was Savages military type musket. The F should not be confused with the 99F. The giveaway on these is the saddle ring on the right hand side of the receiver. Some had hard rubber plates and some wore the regular steel plate. Although a number of them were made in and without the TD feature. The H and the early model 99F are almost identical, the only thing we can go by on what model it is will be the serial number, even though the two rifles overlap each other.
These rifles were the last of the Savage rifles made with standard weight barrels.

Health is in you! At the time, Italian anarchists — in particular the Galleanist group — ranked at the top of the United States government’s list of dangerous enemies. For three years, perhaps 60 Galleanists waged an intermittent campaign of violence against US politicians, judges, and other federal and local officials, especially those who had supported deportation of alien radicals.
Among the dozen or more violent acts was the bombing of Attorney General A. A blog dedicated to the love of guns, gun restoration, repair and customization Sunday, February 16, Winchester Model 94 Rifles The Winchester model or ’94 as it is now known had a hand in the death of more deer than probably any other gun. With over 7 million sold it is the most popular sporting rifle of all time. Designed in the days of black powder by none other than the great John Moses Browning, the model 94 was designed to be the larger framed version of the model , which was too short for the then new necked rifle cartridges.
The ’94 went through a few changes during its years of production in New Haven. Many people try to break the model 94’s production into just two groups, pre ’64 and post ’64, but there were other changes made that we should consider. In black powder was still the predominant propellant.

Gun Review By Bryce M. Towsley posted Jul 1st, at The guns that truly changed the world form a unique and rare club. While the membership requirements are vague and unwritten, nobody can dispute that the Winchester Model sits on the board of directors. The lineage and pedigree of this gun is truly an American success story. Oliver Winchester was a shirt maker when he invested in Volcanic Repeating Arms, a company making an odd lever-action rifle.
That rifle used a hollow-base bullet with a powder charge inside the bullet. The trouble was the powder charge was too small and the gun was not very powerful.

Designed by John M. It was a culmination of the evolution of Winchester lever actions and proving to be an extremely versatile rifle. One of the most notable changes occurred in the s when production costs of the earlier Model 94 design increased dramatically, the company made the decision to find less expensive methods of production or face pricing itself out of the hunting market, which made up a large percentage of retail sales. Most of the shortcomings of the post Model 94s were eventually corrected, but the pre ’64 versions remain the most desirable of all Winchester Model 94s.

For the past 5 years he has spent at least two weeks a year with a volunteer at the Cody Museum of Firearms research room. This is a post that he has made and I hope you find it as informative as I have. As many of you will undoubtedly note, the figures I have compiled below vary significantly from the numbers published by George Madis in his tomes “The Winchester Book” and “The Winchester Handbook”.
All of my statistical numbers were derived from a detailed survey conducted by the Cody Firearms Museum of the first , serial number records, and from the Polishing Room Serialization Record Books held by the Cody Firearms Museum. Undoubtedly, all of the caliber, and the Rifle versus Carbine production number ratios would change drastically if the records were available for serial numbers , – 2, , The Polishing Room Serialization Record Books PRSRBs which contain nothing more than just the serial number, fortunately survive up to serial number 1, , , which was manufactured on December 29th, Production ratios for the first , Model s made: Winchester began producing Model 94s at an accelerated pace starting in By the end of the year , Madis’ published DOM list and the PRSRB records only differ by just 17 serial numbers versus , but they rapidly begin to diverge in the ensuing years.
The PRSRB records end at serial number 1, , , which is listed as the last Model 94 serial number recorded on December 29th of Following WW II, Winchester averaged approximately , Model 94s per year from – , then about 55, per year through The numbers I have listed below are estimates that are based on my research survey, and they should not be relied upon to determine an “exact” DOM.
